McKinney Police Department receives National CALEA Accreditation

The City of McKinney announced the McKinney Police Department (MPD) received national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) for professional excellence. The MPD was evaluated on 363 standards to gain accredited status. CALEA’s high standards and its accreditation programs are recognized as benchmarks for professional law enforcement agencies.

The MPD is just the third agency in Texas to achieve dual accreditation by receiving CALEA recognition while currently holding recognized status from the Texas Police Chief’s Association (TPCA).

Beginning in June, a team of assessors from CALEA examined all aspects of the MPD’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services as part of the voluntary process to gain accreditation. Residents provided comments to the assessors at a public information session during the on-site visit.

City Manager is Paul Grimes.

Approximately 850 out of 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the country are accredited by CALEA, with another 170 agencies currently in the accreditation process.
