A new 2+2 transfer agreement between Collin College and Texas Woman’s University (TWU) will put students on track to blend culinary arts and food science in a unique Culinology® program, the first of its kind in Texas.
Students who graduate from Collin College with a two-year associate of applied science (AAS) in culinary arts degree can continue on to earn a bachelor of applied science (BAS) in culinary science and food service management at TWU, another two-year program, also known as Culinology®. The students taking advantage of this 2+2 program at Collin will have a strong basis for continuing on into TWU’s Culinology® program, as Collin’s program is accredited by the American Culinary Federation.
“Students obtain a solid foundation in culinary skill sets and techniques at Collin College before moving on to Texas Woman’s University,” said Karen Musa, program chair for the Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Education at Collin College. “In addition, the cost of completing the first two years at Collin College cannot be matched. In-county students will pay approximately $5,000 for a two-year degree in culinary arts, and that includes, tuition, lab fees, uniform, tools and books.”
Culinology®, as defined by the Research Chefs Association (RCA), blends the culinary arts and food science. Students who earn a degree in this field are well-positioned for jobs including food scientist, research and development scientist, test kitchen chef, executive chef, nutritionist and managers in nutrition and food service. Collin College worked with Texas Woman’s to help TWU secure its RCA accreditation in April of this year.
